Finding a magical mentor can be a tricky business for sure 🤔
Magical practice is a very personal thing. It often varies greatly from one individual to another. And, unfortunately, it is my experience that many of the people out there who market themselves as mentors have ulterior motives.
So what is a new Witch to do when she’s looking for a little guidance from someone who has more experience with leading a magical lifestyle? A witchy mentor. Someone she can rely on to always do their best to guide her in the right direction. To ‘show her the ropes’. Teach her about the Craft in a clear way. A 1, 2, 3 method, if you will.
Well Witches …
There’s no absolutely fool proof method for choosing your mentor. I wish there were. I really do.
As a Witch who has seen the harm which can be done by poor ‘leadership’ in the Craft first hand …
i can offer you the following tips on how to make a good choice …
Navigate toward magical folk you feel drawn to. BUT the very moment you are uncomfortable with their practices remove yourself from their lives. Do not allow anyone to coerce you into participating in things you don’t agree with.
Lean toward people whom you admire, as opposed to those who ‘impress’ you. Look for people who say things that make your spirit soar and then live those things right before your very eyes.
Bear in mind that the way someone presents themselves to you at the start of a relationship, and the way they actually live their lives can be two very different things. So take your time and get to know them. Listen to what they say. Watch how they behave. And pay attention to how others feel about them as well. If they do not allow you to slowly ease into a relationship with them, then they might as well wave a great big red flag in front of your face, Witches.
No one should rush you my Luvs! If your spiritual growth is that high on their agenda then they have reasons for that. Reasons which only serve them.
I have been exposed to all sorts of ‘magical’ people in my life. And many of those experiences have been quite delightful. I’ve learned a great deal through many different women. True spiritual warriors who practice magic with great integrity.
But, make no mistake, I have also had a few experiences with Witches who caused great harm in my life. Curses are real and devastating. Of this there is no doubt.
While I am grateful to have learned the lesson of being mindful of the type of magic which tries to superimpose itself in my life, I also have profound questions about why my life and that of my dearest loved one was allowed to suffer such severe devastation at their hands. The argument could be made that we came out of our experience wiser. And that is definitely true. But even still there are residuals of their wicked work in our lives. And that fact fills me with many questions 😞
I don’t share this with you because I want to scare you, Witches. I share it with the sincere hope that it will cause you to remain alert when seeking spiritual advice/guidance/mentorship from others.
Looking for someone to emulate in the Craft is serious business. Do not compromise in this area. Be diligent in remaining objective concerning the character of those who teach you!
You don’t want to be involved with anyone who tries to coerce you into doing that which you do not feel comfortable. with, or anyone who isn’t living what they teach, or anyone who tries to rush your learning process.
But what qualities do you want your witchy mentor to possess?
Here’s a quick reference list for you, Witches …
A desire to point you in the direction that is right for you, as opposed to urging you to follow the direction they have chosen for themselves.
Someone who does as they say, as opposed to someone who says all the right things but displays behavior which doesn’t line up with their words.
Someone who presents you with varied options concerning how to approach a situation, as opposed to someone who presents a single option as though it is your only choice.
An even temper, as opposed to an easily fueled fire, or even the feeling that they are likely to become inflamed at any point.
One who is accepted by others in your social circles (and theirs), as opposed to someone who makes other people uncomfortable.
A person who welcomes your questions, and is not put off by the fact that you may occasionally draw a different conclusion on something than the one they hold.
Someone who makes realistic claims, as opposed to one who is saying that they will teach you how to turn toads into mermaids.
One who can laugh at themselves and knows that it is okay to be wrong now and again. After all that is how a person grows and you want to learn growth from a person who knows how to do it!
A person who charges exorbitant fees for their work. Or increasingly upgrades your purchases from them claiming that for the next step you will have to make yet another purchase.
I truly believe that if you keep an eye out for these qualities in a mentor, you will very likely find an amazing mentor. One who is just right for you. One who will be an integral part of your rise to the next level of your spiritual journey.
Do remember that having more than one mentor is a very well-rounded approach to growth. A good mentor will be a teacher for a time and a friend for life.
And also never lose sight of the fact that mentors are people. If you seek perfection from them you will consistently be disappointed. They have flaws like everyone else. And they cannot know everything. No one does. But what they have to teach you will not be better taught by anyone else. Because the Universe has matched you for the growth process. And there is no match maker with more wisdom than the Universe 😉
Stay safe out there, Witches! And stay true to yourself. ALWAYS!
That’s all I have for you on how to choose a mentor right now …
I do hope that each and every one of you find a mentor, or two, or three who inspires you to become the very best Witch you can be …
Let's get together in the comments so you can share what this little post taught you about choosing a mentor. And also what you have to teach me about learning from other magical practitioners 😉
